January 28, 2013

This week was transfer weeks, I wasn´t in my area til thursday so we didn´t get to much done. I was reading conference talks though and I came across Elder Cooks talk, "can you feel so now". He states in there a quote about a man who says something about christianity and says that as people realize the need for us they will listen to us more. He then said, "If someone is sick, they listen to a doctor." I was thinking a lot about that and I realized. Our job as missionaries and members of the church is to be the spiritual doctors for every one out therewho is spiritually sick. A lot of people don´t know that they are sick,a and that comes to be our job as well. We have to be aware and listen to the promptings of the spirit as they come so that we can help everyone out there to realize that they are spiritually sick and we can give them the cure. My comp and I are going to be working a lot with that this week and hopefully we can see the results of it. We did find a girl who came over here from Bolivia and she is having a lot of problems right now. She said she will go to church next week, and we are going to be working a lot with her. This week a 70 is also coming to our mission and we will be having a conference with him on wednesday. I´m excited to hear teaching from the leaders of our church. I think im really blessed with all the apostles and leaders of the church ive been able to see. Maybe one day ill get to meet the Prophet :) Well I love you all! I hope you have a great week. Don´t forget to read and pray every day! It´s really important especially now a days with all the trials in the world! Love you lots, Elder Johnson

January 14, 2013

I know being from Arizona and everything is going to make this sound a little weird. But its 60 degrees here and I am dying in this heat haha. It´s nice and hot here in the summer of Ushuaia, and im glad to hear that everyone is enjoying a nice cool winter in Arizona. I honestly never thought I would be excited to see 60 degrees with a lot of sunshine but its nice to finallynot have to leaave the house ina sweatshirt to go to work. So the other day, we went to contact an old investigator who went on vacation. (Vacation here means youre gone for 1 to 2 months.) We went to their house to see if they were home yet, and in this part of the city you have to clap your hands, then the people come out. We clapped our hands and no one came out. Clapped again, and still no one. Then we clapped really loudly, (half out of anger other half in hopes someone was just deaf haha) Then as we do that, some one comes out of the neighbors house. She tellsus that her name was Micaela, we gave her a pamhlet about the restoration and she told us where she lives and said we could come by. She also told us that she has a friend who is a member of another ward in ushuaia. So we went by her hosue on saturday to invite her to church and she was asleep so we just left a not inviting her to church. The next day we show up to cjhurch, and no investigators. Our ward starts off with the classes then we go to sacrament meeting last. So then we get a call right before sacrament starts and it was our leader telling us that someone went to their church with a friend and said that we went by and left a note at their house. Thinking it was her, after church we passed by her house and started talking to her. She told us that she had never been, but we found out that her 10 year old sister has been a few times with their friend from the other ward. We talked a little bit about the book of Mormon, and at the end invited micaela to be baptized and she accepted. Sadly her little sister is a little bit of a cry baby and she came in crying and complaining to the mom and we had to leave with out even saying a closing prayer, but we{re going to pass by again today to talk to them and set up another appointment ot meet with them. It was really nice to finally have something happen after 5 weeks of hard work and a lot of walking, and I know that through sincere prayer and faith we found this family. They have a lot of problems within their family and I{m excited to see the changes that the gospel will bring in to their lives. Thank oyu everyone for all your prayers for me, I can really feel them and Im so grateful for all of your support. Hope you have a great week, dont forget to read and pray every day! Love you all! 1 transfer down in the end of the world already. It was a little bit rough, but we´re not giving up. Thats exactly what satan wants and we´re not going to take it! I´m excited to hear about everyone getting mission calls. It seems like the whole world is leaving on missions. Everyone here is getting mission calls too. The other day a member from the other ward down here got his call to Brasil and he leaves in a few months. I will be getting a new companion on wednesday. Until then I will be serving with an elder in another ward down here. Luckily that area isnt way up in the mountains so ill finally get a break from all these hills. I hope that my new companion and I can figure out the things we need to change here so we can see some people enter into this covenant with our Father in Heaven soon. I hope everything is going well at home and you´re all in my prayers! I love you all! Love, Elder Johnson

January 7th

This has been a tough transfer. The people here are a lot more receptive than they are in Buenos Aires, but the problem here, is that no one wants to change religions. This place is so relaxed that every one is content with not going to church and just sitting in their house all day doing nothing. My companion and I have been struggling with having investigators in church. I´m not sure if there is something we need to change or what but it´s just been really hard finding people to help us and finding people to teach. We have been working really hard with getting the members to help us, but its the same thing every time... "Elders, all are friends are catholics or evangelists." Then no on ever wants to refer us to their friends. I feel bad for not helping the missionaries when I was at home. I don´t think they ever asked me, maybe I would have if they did, but I really learned how important it is to refer the missionaries to your friends. Even if you don´t think they are interested. So this is kind of a hint for every one that reads this too ,) Hah. Anyone that you know just send the missionaries to them, the worst thing that happens is they say no, close the door and we leave. It´s better to give them their opportunity to say no to the gospel than to be held accountable for not giving them the chance. I think at times we are scared that we are going to lose friendships out of it too, but I can tell you that no one has ever lost a friend because we stopped by. The worst that can happen to someone like that would be your friend coming up to you and saying, "thanks, but I don´t want anything with your religion." Haha. So anyway, enough of my blabbering about missionary work, but I guess thats what im called to do anyway. I hope that soon we will be able to find people here and change the way things are going, its been quite some time since I have had a baptism and I really want to change that. I hope things can change with the new year, I´m willing to do all it takes to make the change, but we´ll see what happens. 2 more weeks left in this transfer.

Oh and because of so many missionaries coming in, our next transfer is cut by 1 week and all missionaries are going home 1 week early. so next transfer is a 5 week transfer instead of 6. We´re expecting over 50 missionaries next transfer. Thats a ton haha.

Anyway, I hope everything is going well at home, hope everyone knows youre all always in my prayers. If there is anything I can do for you here so far away in the end of the world let me know. I´m still willing to help. Love you all, suerte con sus metas de 2013.

Love,
Elder Johnson
